Banu Najaar was a tribe based in Medina. It was also the paternal family of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ¬. Sayyedna Anas رضی اللہ عنہا says: someone from that tribe got sick so Prophet ﷺ¬ went to console him. (During conversation) the Prophet ﷺ¬ said: My Paternal Uncle! Kindly recite [لا الہ الا اللہ]. The man inquired: Am I your paternal uncle or maternal uncle? The Prophet ﷺ¬ replied: My Paternal Uncle! Then the Prophet ﷺ¬ added: Recite the kalima. The man asked further: Is it in my favour? The Prophet ﷺ¬ said: Yes! (Masnad Ahmed 152/3)
Respecting a non Muslim’s funeral:
Sayyedna Sahl Bin Hanif and Qais Bin Saad رضی اللہ عنہا were sitting on the location of Qaadsia when a funeral procession passed by them. Both of them stood in honour. They were told: This funeral belongs to an idol worshipper (non Muslim). The Sahabah quoted a hadees from Prophet Muhammad ﷺ¬ that once a funeral convoy passed by. Looking at it, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ¬ stood up. Someone said: this is the body of a jew. Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ¬ replied: Wasn’t it once a being with life? (Al Bukhari 1312)
